6 Day Best of Uganda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Experience
Day 1: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park from Kampala
Your private guide will pick you up in Kampala and then proceed to your accommodation near Kibale Forest National Park. If we arrive early enough, there will be an opportunity for your private guide to take you on a community walk to visit the crater lakes region to witness spectacular views of the surrounding area and learn about it’s history.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Wetland Sanctuary
After an early breakfast you and your private guide will proceed to the park headquarters in Kibale Forest National Park for a short briefing with the head guide. You will then be allocated a private guide who will lead you into the forest in search of the chimpanzees. Kibale is arguably the best place in East Africa for chimpanzee trekking. Observe wild, habituated chimpanzees in their habitat as they swing through the trees and playfully interact with other members of their family. After your chimpanzee trekking experience, we will head to lunch and then choose to trek with the chimpanzees again or head to a wetland sanctuary nearby. The Bigodi Wetland Conservation area contain several species of primates and over 200 species of birds.
Day 3: Game drive en route to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Botwa Community Visit
Today we will set off for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP after breakfast. We will use a route passing through Queen Elizabeth National Park and therefore will have the chance to see lions, elephants, buffalo, and a variety of other wildlife. After arriving in Bwindi that afternoon, you will have the privilege to visit a rural Botwa village and experience the local pygmy culture and learn their history and relationship with Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Afterwards we will head back to the lodge for dinner and an early night in anticipation of our gorilla trekking experience the next day.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking Experience
Today is the reason why so many travelers head specifically to Uganda, Gorilla Trekking. Directly after breakfast we will head out to the park headquarters for our briefing from the head UWA guide. There you will meet your personal guide and rangers who will lead you through the forest in pursuit of the gorillas. Depending upon your physical capabilities and desire to hike, the hike through the jungle can take 2-8 hours depending on the location of your specific family of gorillas. Upon finding the family of gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an entire hour with them to photograph and observe them. Your personal guide and rangers are incredibly experienced with the gorillas and will give you guidance as they ensure your safety throughout the duration of the experience. After your trek, return to your lodge where you will be serenaded by local Batwa singers and dancers before dinner.
Day 5: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi and Sunset Lake Cruise
After breakfast, you and your private guide will depart Bwindi en route to beautiful Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyoni boasts of some of the best panoramic views in Uganda and is a relaxation destination. Drink in the views of the lake and surrounding hillsides with a cocktail in hand or explore the lake with your private guide on the water.
Day 6: Transfer to Kampala Departure
After breakfast, you and your private guide will depart Lake Bunyoni with a lunch stop in Masaka. You will also stop at the equator for some photographs or Ugandan curios to take home. As we drop you off in Kampala after a successful trip, this marks the end of your Gorilla Trekking Experience with Safaris By Jon.
